The alluring deep-red color of Chianti wine is one of its most recognizable characteristics. The wine is an elaborate blend of Canaiolo, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The power and influence of this wine are far greater than its full-bodied flavor. It has been impacting Chianti borders, culture, history, and prosperity since its creation in the 13th century! Today, the wine is protected by the DOCG quality label.
What about Vespa? How can a small scooter be so famous?
Vespa scooter started small but became an international staple of Italian style. This was not the intention though. Seeing the destruction left behind the WWII, Enrico Piaggio (a cunning Italian businessman), recognized the necessity for a new way of transport. Hence, he commissioned a certain Corradino DAscanio to develop a motorcycle to help people get around the bomb-damaged cities.
Although Vespa is very stylish and cute, the choices behind its design were, above all, practical. For instance, DAscanio put the gear lever onto the handlebar for easy access; He integrated the seat to be both comfortable and safe, and he hid all the mechanical parts behind panels so the rider's clothes wouldn't get dirty.
The company released the first scooter prototype in the 1940s. Piaggio called it Vespa which means wasp because of the scooters narrow waist and buzzing sound.
