If you are not quite sure what to look out for, you might miss out on the most significant parts.
We try hard to offer the most holistic English tours in Venice. Booking St Mark’s Basilica Tour guarantees you get inside the church swiftly, without hours on end of queuing.
That’s not all though! Do you have any questions? You are not sure what to watch out for? Our expert guide will answer all your concerns all the while unfolding the stories behind the mosaics before your eyes. Personalized attention and pleasant experience are our standards.
Besides the mosaics, you will lay your eyes on the bejeweled Pala d’Oro altarpiece containing the relics of St Mark. They are hidden behind a screen of enamels, precious stones, and gold. Our St Mark’s Basilica Tour likewise covers the visit to St. Mark’s Museum. This museum is home to over 280 glass, gold, silver, and enamel pieces from the period of the Fourth Crusade. In addition, there is an impressive collection of liturgical vestments, Persian carpets, and beautifully crafted silk and silver tapestries.
And there is still more! Just keep exploring with our guide. Make your way to the terrace from where you can admire the famous ancient Horses of St. Mark’s Basilica. They were shipped to Venice from Constantinople in the 13th century!
Located just next to the famous Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica towers over the quaint Piazza di San Marco. All the best Venice walking tours pass through this lovely square!
Basilica’s story starts with St Mark’s journey to Rome. The legend has it that when St Mark stopped in Venice, an angel prophesied to him that Venice would be his final place of rest! And indeed, in 828 the angel’s prophecy appears to have come true. In that year, the merchants brought the remains of the saint from Alexandria. Consequently, the Doge himself issued a commanded for the construction of St. Mark’s Basilica to stand guard to the saint’s relics.
Even if you have to see the Venice in a day, St. Mark’s Basilica should be a landmark at the very top of your list.
Plus, to make your day in Venice worth it, you might join us for an authentic Italian aperitif. Have a look at our Venice Walking Tours for more details.
Somewhat chaotic at the starts because of the crowds everywhere, but the tour itself once inside was absolutely superb.
Great tour! We skipped the line (so glad about this as it was just huge!!) and saw everything with a great commentary. Of course, there are tons of people inside as well but our guide was super helpful and great at managing the group.
This tour was really nice! The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we got to see all the beautiful mosaics up close!
We enjoyed seeing the St. Mark's from the inside, plus our guide was very informative. We got to skip the queue to the Basilica which was a real bonus. Great tour, wonderful guide.
The church is beautiful, our guide was excellent. However, it was incredibly crowded. Skipping the line made a big difference but there are tons of people on the inside as well.
