Want to know how to make the most of 48 hours in this gorgeous Italian city? Here is our itinerary to use to get you started on planning your very own trip. With only 48 hours, we'll make sure to pack in as much as we can for you to experience the best of Rome in the best way possible. To make the most of your time, we recommend booking a few tours in advance – but here is what we recommend doing with your time:

Day 1:

9:00 AM - Start your day at the Colosseum, one of the most iconic landmarks in Rome. Book a skip-the-line guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Learn about the fascinating history of this impressive structure and its role in Ancient Rome.

12:00 PM - Take a break from the history and head to a local eatery for lunch. We recommend visiting La Prosciutteria Trevi for a quick bite of panini and some delicious cured meats – some of the best in Rome, in fact.

1:00 PM - After lunch, head to the Pantheon, another marvel of Roman architecture. Book a guided tour of the Pantheon and learn about its impressive dome and unique features.

3:00 PM - Take a stroll through the winding streets of Rome and visit the Trevi Fountain. Make sure to toss a coin in and make a wish – this has been done for years, and people have sworn by its luck for centuries.

4:00 PM - For a unique experience, book a guided tour of the Catacombs of Rome, as this tour will give you a completely unique experience of the area. This tour takes you underground to see the eerie and fascinating catacombs of the city – what will you discover here?

7:00 PM - For dinner, head to Ristorante Pizzeria L'Archetto (located 1, 00062 Bracciano RM, Italy) for some delicious pizza and pasta – because, of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a slice of pizza.

Day 2:

9:00 AM - Start your day at the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. We recommend booking a skip-the-line guided tour to avoid the long lines and crowds.

12:00 PM - After the Vatican, head to Trastevere for some lunch. Trastevere is a charming and picturesque neighbourhood with plenty of options for delicious food. We recommend booking a Trastevere food tour to give you time to truly sample some of the best local cuisine.

3:00 PM - For a more relaxed afternoon, take a stroll through the Villa Borghese gardens. Book a guided tour of the gardens and learn about their fascinating history and see some beautiful sculptures.

7:00 PM - After a full day of sightseeing and exploring Rome, there's nothing like winding down with a delicious meal. Pizzeria La Montecarlo is a top choice for locals and visitors alike, known for their scrumptious pizza and friendly, casual ambiance. Situated in the heart of Rome, Pizzeria La Montecarlo offers a variety of classic pizza options, from Margherita to Quattro Formaggi, as well as more unique choices like the Diavola or Calzone. The pizzas are cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven, ensuring that each slice is hot and crispy. There is no better way to end a spectacular 48 hours in this Italian city.
