Much better than expected!

My thought when I saw the price was we’d only get a busride to get us to Pompeii and back! But I was pleasantly surprised! Claudia, our tourguide, was absolutely magnificent and gave us plenty of information, tips and hints. She helped us in every way possible and was willing and able to give more information about Rome (the place we stayed).

Easy bus trip from Rome. The only tour I could find that gave plenty of time to explore Pompeii (others seemed to be just a two hour stop). Nice host on bus. Enjoyed the day.

Tickets to Pompeii

The once-thriving city of Pompeii fell to ash and rubble in 79 AD. The story of Pompeii’s tragic demise is told best when you visit the ruins. The historical evidence of the once Roman civilization is so vivid and tangible in the archaeological remains that no trip to the region of Campania is complete without exploring Pompeii.

Book your Pompeii tickets and explore the excavated archaeological site for a true sense of the way of life before the volcanic disaster occurred.

While the eruption of Mount Vesuvius was a tragic event, what it left behind was something remarkable. Visit Pompeii and step back in time to gain a better understanding of the customs, religion, culture, lifestyle, and architecture that defined the area. When you're finished exploring, head over to the volcano that was responsible for the city's tragic demise.

Perhaps one of the greatest visual signs of the tragic eruption, that you’ll view on your Pompeii experience, are the bodies you’ll see, now preserved in glass. The pain and desperation can still be seen when you look into the final expressions of the victims. A visit to Pompeii is more than a sightseeing excursion, it's an emotional experience.

Pompeii Ruins Highlights

  • Try your hand at reading and understanding the Oscan inscriptions written by Athena & Hercules in their sanctuary and the oldest roman temple in Pompeii, The Doric Temple.
  • There’s no doubt that the Forum and Amphitheatre of Pompeii are the main attractions in Pompeii. However, the many streets and villas are just as much worth your time. Gain an insight into what life must have looked like when you visit the entire Pompeii Scavi site.
  • Enter the wrestling school, Palaestra, and picture yourself running around the field playing sports like the young upper-class citizens once did.
  • Explore the main centre of religious life in Pompeii at the Temple of Jupiter, also known as Capitolium. The stunning construction was built in honour of the Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva triad.
  • Take a seat in the richly decorated suggestum, where judges sat while judicial affairs were managed in the Basilica
  • Can you imagine going grocery shopping in the 1st Century? Picture yourself as a 1st Century citizen as you stroll past the Macellum, the marketplace where the citizens of Pompeii would buy their food.

#Pompeii Ruins

Pompeii is so much more than an archaeological site or an ancient ruin. The site is a silent tribute to real people who lived their normal lives in a noisy and prosperous city. Capture the essence of Pompeii with a perfect snapshot of life in the past:

  • Let someone take a classic shot of you walking down the stairs of the Pompeii Amphitheater
  • Take a photo of one of the 30 majestic sculptures made by the artist Igor Mitoraj, exhibited throughout the archaeological area. The most popular one is the Centaur, displayed in the Roman Forum.
  • Capture the perfectly preserved paintings that cover the walls of the House of the Vettii.
  • Snap those landscape shots with the ruins in the first frame and the surrounding hills in the background.

Preparing For Your Pompeii Visit

Pack a bag with the following items, and enjoy your full visit to Pompeii:

  • Plenty of water! There are fountains on-site so that you can refill your bottles.
  • Bring your own snacks and food to consume while visiting Pompeii. You will have to leave the site to find restaurants, and they tend to be a little bit pricey.
  • Be sure to pack sunscreen as you’ll be walking all day, and there are not many places to find shade. Also, carry an umbrella and raincoat with you in case the weather forecast changes.
  • Make sure the bag you have is no larger than 30 x 30 x 15, otherwise you will need to leave it in the cloakroom.
  • Wear proper walking attire. The streets of Pompeii are cobbled and mostly uneven, therefore running shoes or hiking boots are best.
