Tour Highlights

The Accademia is also referred to as the statue of David museum, and its no surprise! This statue is the pearl of the museum's exhibitions. However, David is just a tip of this iceberg. The gallery is also home to the collection of Michelangelo other works including his 4 unfinished Prisoners. Furthermore, you can find Florentine paintings from the 15th and 16th century by talented Uccello, Botticelli or del Sarto. A recent addition to the gallery is the Museum of Musical Instruments displaying masterpieces by Stradivari and Cristofori (inventor of the piano).

With Accademia Gallery Guided Tour, you get much more than a quick access to the masterpieces that comes with skip-the-line Accademia Gallery tickets. The tour will help you understand and discover the motives and circumstances under which they were created. Yes, you could get all this information with an Accademia gallery audio guide, but the monotone descriptions are not always that fun.

A real guide will cherry pick the most relevant information, allow you to share the experience with your friends and family, offer answers for your curious inquiries and indulge in an occasional joke. Above all, you can feel safe. With us, you will have a guaranteed entrance and an option to easily cancel shall your holiday frolics take you in another direction.

History Sneak Peek

Like most buildings in Florence, Accademia Gallery reaches deep into the past. It was Pietro Leopoldo, Grand Duke of Tuscany, who founded the gallery in 1784.

The Beginning: Art School

Initially, it served as a teaching facility for the adjacent Academy of Fine Arts. The Accademia museum Florence David halls formerly used as a hospital and convent served to inspire and teach to-be artists.  Little by little, paintings and masterpieces collected from convents and monasteries suppressed by the Grand Duke (and in 1810, by Napoleon) covered the many walls of the gallery.

Accademia Today

A decade after opening to the public, the direction extended the collections to display more paintings, tapestries, and sculptures. In the 1950s, the gallery inaugurated the Hall of Colossus and Byzantine-style rooms featuring 1300 panel paintings. Most recently, in 2001, Accademia opened Museo Degli Strumenti Musicali displaying hundreds of antique musical instruments from Cherubini Conservatory.

Accademia museum Florence is full of curious secrets and knowledge. Book our Guided tour of the Accademia Gallery and allow yourself to learn more about the crème de la crème of Italian paintings and sculptures in a fun and relaxed atmosphere! We also recommend you to buy Florence Duomo tickets or tours as it's one of the most visited attractions in Florence.
