Last minute tour

I like to travel like a true nomad and plan everything at the last possible second which makes for trouble :) Lucky for me there was a spot open with Tania’s DoTravel tour and I was able to get a full visit of the colosseum underground and Palatino. Since it’s a smaller company (compared to other popular ones) we had a more personal experience with fewer people. Tania and the group made sure we made it there on time and were able to find the group. We were a bit confused when we first arrived at the meeting point but once we found the team it was an easy walk over to the coliseum entrance with the skip the line pass. We had headphones and a very nice Italian local tour guide. We did have some minor language barriers as our guide had limited English skills as we went through the tour of the coliseum but it wasn’t a huge issue. It took about an hour to get through the coliseum arena and underground... unfortunately the underground was under reconstruction so we didn’t get the full experience. We only saw a small portion of the underground which was underwhelming considering the cost of the tour and the limited tickets. We were running a little bit late to the second half of the tour (Palatino) after lunch and the guide and other tourist were kind enough to wait ten minutes in the heat for us (which our group greatly appreciated!) The second guide, James, gave a great and captivating tour of the Palatino. It was shorter, about 30 minutes or so. Personally, I wish that the coliseum itself had more to see (I was a bit disappointed considering all the hype.... it’s really just a shell of its former self) and that the underground were fully accessible but that is out of the tour guides control... Overall DoTravel did great and I was happy with their service. I would use DoTravel again.

Super knowledgeable

At first we visited the Capuchin Convent near Piazza Barberini with its bone chapels. At first it was kind of strange to see the catacombs with its bone decorations, but on the other hand it was beautiful to see, what decorations and signs are possible with human remains.

Colloseum for the first time

We booked this tour thinking it was going to be great, but it exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide Sev was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and humorous.

Kids loved it!

My husband and I decided to bring our kids to the Colosseum (thank goodness for fast-track tickets - waiting in long lines with 2 crazy kids ain't fun), and we had a great visit! The guided underground tour exceeded my expectations. Our kids particularly enjoyed pretending to be gladiators in the tunnels.

  • Enter through the Gate of Death, and walk around the arena floor like an ancient gladiator ready to fight.
  • Stand on the stage in the middle of the largest amphitheater ever built. Imagine the excitement and cheering of 50,000 spectators watching your every move.
  • Roam around through a labyrinthian network of tunnels. Find the chambers where the gladiators and animals were held waiting in anticipation of their “performances.”
