Good organization. The tour of the Colosseum was fantastic and I think much more enjoyable in the evening, as we were in Rome in the middle of a heat wave. However, you do miss out on a few things in the evening such as the view of the arena. All in all it was a fabulous experience with a great guide but if I was going to see it again, I would choose a cheaper tour without the drinks and nibbles

Our Guide Stef was extremely knowledgeable about Colosseums extraordinary history. The tour was very interesting and the atmosphere inside the Colosseum at night is priceless. Lovely aperitivo.

Must visit

Defiantly recommend to have this coliseum rome tickets because it's the only way you don't have to wait in lone queue.

If you think Rome is beautiful by day, then wait until the sun goes down. Wait until the night sky blankets the Italian capital. Can you imagine a stroll through the Centro Storico’s tangled knot of cobbled streets? All that under the soft orange hue of the street lights? An evening spent drinking Negronis and Aperol Spritz in a moonlight piazza? You see, cities find their providence in the magic and romance of night. In the moment when the heat of the day is but a distant memory and the morning no more than an idle notion. To capitalize on this, and make the most of Rome at night consider taking one of the many Rome night tours available.

To see Rome at night is to see the city through new eyes. Whether you’ve seen the Colosseum before or not, visiting it at night is a must. A Colosseum night tour means that not only do you get to experience one of Rome’s most iconic sites illuminated and after the crowds have gone, but it also means you gain access to what lies beneath it. Underneath the Colosseum are the spooky tunnels and cages only accessible as part of a tour. Places, where the gladiators, slaves and wild beasts were waited before going to battle it out in the arena above. Once you’ve explored the belly of the Colosseum, you are then shown the arena floor proper. Here, you can stand in the heart of the Colosseum at night. A quiet moment to imagine the roar of the crowds watching the bloody clashes unfold.

Alternatively, a Rome by night walking tour is another fantastic experience. Or, for those who like their tours a little more techy, you could try a Rome night Segway tour? Exploring the Centro Storico by night again means you get to avoid the hordes of tourists who flock to the area during the day. Stand in the quiet cool of the night and marvel at the striking sight of the Pantheon’s backlit columns, the illuminated waters of the Piazza Navona’s beautiful fountains, or the stunning scale of the Monument of Victor Emmanuel. For a different taste of the city consider Rome night tours or perhaps a Rome Night tour with dinner.

Why see Rome at night?

Rome during the day is spectacular. At night, it’s bewitching. Its monuments flooded in golden lighting against the night sky create an atmosphere that is hard to describe. Hitting the streets of Rome at night it’s definitely something to put on your to-do list.

What are the benefits of night tours?

Night tours are, in essence walking or Segway tours that take you around Rome at night. Their biggest advantage is the timing. In the evening, there are fewer people in the streets. Plus, you don’t have to spend hours in the sun and instead enjoy a cooler nighttime breeze.

Do I need a guide?

You can absolutely enjoy Rome by night on your own, though we do highly recommend getting a guide. It’s a great way to get to know the city and enjoy looking at the sights with a bit more background information. Better yet, many of the night tours include a dinner or wine tasting.

What other things to do at night in Rome?

  • Stroll among the ruins shaped by the imposing lighting
  • Shop! You can take advantage of the comfort of night temperatures on Via del Portico d’Ottavia, the Jewish Ghetto. The shopping traffic goes on well into the evening hour.
  • Visit the famous steps by Piazza di Spagna and its famous steps where famous poets like Goethe, Byron, Joyce, and Keats came for inspiration.
  • Take part in Rome film festival on Rome’s Tiber Island. It starts in June and culminates in September. The island boasts with restaurants, bars, markets, pubs, hookah cafes, artesian handicrafts, and outdoor cinema which you can enjoy on a comfy blanket.
  • Watch a play at the Roman Forum. English-speaking travelers are sure to get a giggle out of the Miracle Players, a theater troupe that reenacts historical plays giving it a Monty Python-style twist. All that with the Forum and the Colosseum as a brilliant backdrop. It starts at sunset!
  • Rome is known for its rooftop bar scene. There you can sip fancy drinks and enjoy the views of the city.

Is Rome safe at night?

In general, Rome is a very safe city. That is not to say you should throw all caution and common sense to wind. Crime happens everywhere so you should keep your usual guards up. Watch out for:

  • Pickpockets: Touristic areas are always swarming with pickpockets, keep an eye on your belongings when in a crowd.
  • Tourist Scams: Again busy places attract all kinds of “businessmen.” For instance, always change your money in a bank or a designated currency exchange, do not accept offers from people offering you a better conversion rate. Be firm when declining an offer or a service you don’t want, do not look hesitant.

Is it costly?

The price ranges from 25 € to 100 € depending on what is included in the price. Rome night tours that include dinner or tickets to one of the monuments will be pricier.
