Activity Highlights

There are so many things to do in Florence; the choice can be overwhelming. It's almost impossible to cover all of it by foot or even a bike. So what do you do if bus tour simply sounds too lame?

The vintage Fiat 500 is as iconically associated with Italy as much as the stylish Vespa scooter. Yes, there are numerous tours from Florence to choose from. However, very few of them offer as unique of a take on the city as our Fiat Tour Florence.

Speeding down narrow city streets, winding roads and rolling Tuscan hills in a restored original Fiat 500 is priceless. Its a scene stolen from a classic Italian movie! Free of worry and need to check the directions constantly; you can turn off and enjoy the absence of the crowds. Plus, at each stop, our expert guide will tell you a bit more about the city and its intriguing history.

History Sneak Peek

Florence is most known for being the cradle of the Renaissance as well as being home to the most spectacular artistic treasures created during this period.

However, the city's history goes much further. In fact, it was the (in)famous Julius Caesar who founded Florence in 59 BC. He meant it to serve as a haven for military veterans, but the stars had a different fate in mind.

Florence happened to be located both a land great for farming AND on a crucial travel route between northern Italy and Rome. Given these fortunate conditions, it grew into a bustling commercial hub in no time. By the 10th century, Florence was on a straightforward and unquestioned trajectory to prosperity. Eventually, a little further down the path, the Medici banking family turned Florence into a flourishing banking center.

Its the economic growth and stability that created a perfect atmosphere for innovation. The best artists and scientist gathered in the area to create and invent the masterpiece we admire today. This movement led to the establishment of the Accademia Gallery - initially a school for aspiring artists. Some of the most famous names include Botticelli, Michelangelo, Ghirlandaio and Leonardo da Vinci.

As per the history of the Fiat 500 - or as Italians call it Cinquecento - it all started in the 1950s. Drawing on the original Fiat 500 Topolino (little mouse), the designer created Fiat 500 to be practical, and affordable. In other words, it was perfect for getting around the narrow streets typical of Italian towns and cities. The car became so popular, it got a nickname "the people's car."

Despite the popularity, the production only ran for eighteen years, from 1957 to 1975. It's also the exclusivity that makes the model so appealing today.

When will you ever get another chance to drive a classic vintage Fiat 500 around Italian countryside? It doesn't come around that often. Don't hesitate any longer and book Fiat Tour Florence today!
