The price of the San Gimignano, Chianti, and Montalcino tour includes a free pick-up service, travel by an air-conditioned minivan, wine tasting, light lunch composed of local dishes, a snack of cured meats and cheeses as well as a drop-off service.
Moreover, the tour offers you a great deal of flexibility to personalize your experience by giving you free time to explore in both San Gimignano and Montalcino.
San Gimignano overlooks its surroundings from a hilltop. The town is visible from a great distance, even more so thanks to its towers. This tiny unassuming town is famous as the town with a hundred towers. In the 13th century, San Gimignano skyline featured as many as seventy-two towers. However, only thirteen of those towers still stand today.
Why such passion for tower-building? Well, at the time, every wealthy family wanted one. In Middle Ages, towers represented wealth and power as the construction process was costly and difficult. Most of the materials had to be mined and imported. Hence, only the wealthiest families in town could afford to build such extravaganza.
Montalcino is also centuries old. Its biggest gem, besides the marvelous views and ancient architecture, is the Brunello wine. Brunello di Montalcino is wine recognized all over the world.
In the past, the word Brunello didn't actually refer to the wine but to the grape. Its quite logical, the local grapes are small and brownish and the word Brunello means a small brown one. The locals call Sangiovese Grosso grape Brunello until today.
