History Sneak Peek

The vineyards of Chianti has its own intriguing history. While today we know Chianti wine as the ruby-red beverage with bursting flavors, the first version was a white wine. It stepped on the scene in the 13th century! The wine from the area was excellent and so, many started calling the area of its origin "Chianti," as well.

It wasn't until the Middle Ages the region became official. How? Three tiny villages (Castellina, Gaiole, and Radda) created an official League of Chianti (Lega del Chianti). This zone continued to flourish into the historical and spiritual soul of Chianti. The borders of the region shifted a lot throughout history as many vineyards wanted to call their wine Chianti.

Today, just a few approved wineries can sell their wines under the Chianti label. Despite each wine estate having its unique recipe, all of them need to meet the strict requirements and regulations of DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita)! These rules exist to protect the quality and authenticity of the product.

Tasking Chianti wine in its homeland is a one-of-a-kind experience. Its characteristic color and fragrance with hints of violet is something you shouldn't miss.
