Quiet romantic towns and villages are embroidered into the rugged coastline all along the Italian Riviera. However, the five fishing villages that make up Cinque Terre are likely to be the Riviera’s most iconic. The five villages are not the clandestine hamlets they were in the 60s. However, UNESCO and the Italian government have worked hard to preserve the atmosphere and remote authenticity of the place. It goes without saying that Cinque Terre tours are a great way to experience the beautiful region of Liguria. If you are wondering about the best way to explore Cinque Terre, hiking is the way you want to go.
Hiding in an especially mountainous stretch of the Italian Riviera, the major influences on the villages have been the sea, wind and their profound isolation. To this day, the area’s incredible ruggedness still introduces more than a few challenges when it comes to accessibility. Moreover, due to the unique nature of the place, the authorities banned car traffic in the area for good. Yes, you can take advantage of the local train or electric buses. Nonetheless, merely riding through the surrounding countryside isn’t the best way to take in the atmosphere. When in Cinque Terre walk! Hike down the many crooked paths that offer striking views. Or, wander through the narrow streets and take in the mouth-watering aromas of local cuisine.
A Cinque Terre day trip is irresistible for most travelers. In fact, since its “discovery,” this little sun-soaked heaven has managed to stir even the most jaded of souls. The dramatic scenery is in sharp contrast with the laid-back lifestyle. The relaxed sleepiness typical for small towns makes for a unique getaway. A day trip to Cinque Terre is a great option for a busy itinerary. Nevertheless, if time allows, treat yourself to the tours of Cinque Terre that let you explore the area for two or more days. Delightful activities such as swimming, snorkeling, hiking, sampling the local wines and foods, or simply watching the sunset will make sure you’re busy!
