Florences Duomo Complex keeps the glory of Renaissance alive until today. There is indeed much to admire! For instance, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is the fourth largest church on Earth. The whole complex including the Giotto's Campanile, Baptistery, is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Being a cunningly complex structure, this landmark was not a work of just one man or one century! The Duomo cathedral Florence construction took off towards the end of the 13th century under the guidance of Arnolfo di Cambio. Nonetheless, the Duomo part which covers most of the exterior of the cathedral is a work of Filippo Brunelleschi, added in the 15th century. The statues of both architects stand outside the cathedral on the right.
Wow! Two centuries to build a church! Moreover, it wasn't until the 19th century that it was, at last, fully decorated.
