We will drive through exuberant virgin landscapes dotted with dazzling white villages, we will pass hillsides cultivated on terraces and planted with olive trees, vineyards and fields of almond and citrus. The area also has a fascinating history and is well known throughout Spain for the qualities of its medicinal waters.
The Alpujarra is a long valley that extends to the west between the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the Sierra de Lújar, Contraviesa and Gádor, with the Mediterranean coast on its southern side. [readmore] After the pick-up at your hotel we will go to the picturesque town of Lanjarón. This spa is famous for its numerous fountains, each inscribed with a short phrase or poem by the famous poet Federico García Lorca.
Then we will continue towards Orgiva, the capital of the region. Our tour will run through a succession of dazzlingly white villages, nestled in the unique emerald landscape of Granada. We will pass by the towns of Caratuñas, Pampaneira, Pitres, Pórtugos as we climb to Trevelez, which at 1,486 meters of altitude, is one of the highest villages in Spain. It is also famous for its exquisite Iberian hams cured in the mountain air!
The tour continues as we head to Bubión and Capileira, two villages that hang vertiginously on the impressive gorge of the Poqueira River. Here we will stop to enjoy a traditional Alpujarra meal and you will have free time to explore this typical Arab style village, full of narrow winding streets, flat roofs and characteristic chimneys, before returning to Granada.
