What you'll do

Begin at one of London's most animated corners and move into quieter streets steeped in royal history.

The route threads through St James's, where a palace from the 1530s still shapes diplomatic protocol, and continues past the Victoria Memorial before opening onto the ceremonial sweep of the Mall. St James's Park provides a calm interlude, with one of the city's best views across its lake toward the palace.

Beyond, the skyline of the Thames-side parliament buildings offers stories of fires, plots and architectural revival: explore the aftermath of the 1605 Gunpowder Plot, the fire of 1834 and the Gothic rebuilding that defined the Houses of Parliament.
